FHI’s New Resource Directory of HIV/AIDS Services in Addis Ababa

Purpose

Family Health International (FHI), in partnership with the Addis Ababa Health Bureau, the Addis Ababa Regional AIDS Council Secretariat, and many other partners, has prepared a new directory of local services for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), and people affected by HIV/AIDS, like orphans and vulnerable children. People living with and affected by HIV/AIDS have diverse kinds of needs and are in need of many different kinds of services and support. PLWHA have psychological needs (like emotional support), economic needs (such as income to pay for food and housing), medical needs (like treatment information and medication for HIV/AIDS, opportunistic infections, and other minor illnesses), and legal needs (such as access to care and protection from discrimination).

The needs of PLWHA change as their disease progresses from HIV infection to symptoms of AIDS. To make sure that people are able to get the best care available no matter what their stage of illness, FHI has prepared a guide.

The guide is a first step toward establishing an entire network of services to be able to meet the many needs of PLWHA and their families, as well as orphans and vulnerable children left behind in the epidemic. Particular attention is given to woreda-based organizations in hopes of strengthening community-level responses to HIV/AIDS.

Format

Organizations in the 45-page directory are listed first alphabetically, then in the following categories:
