According to the 2005 International Labour Organization report, the cumulative loss of Labour force to HIV/AIDS globally reached 28 million, and without intervention the loss in Labour force could reach 48 million by 2010, of whom 70% will be in Africa. Companies often face difficulties in designing and implementing a comprehensive HIV/AIDS workplace program. It is currently working with its members, companies and partner organizations to fight HIV/AIDS and develop a long-term and effective response to HIV/AIDS at the workplace and through community outreach. EBCA is also a member of the Pan African Business Coalition, an umbrella organization established to provide important support for national coalitions to take action on HIV/AIDS.

The Blueprint for Business Action on HIV/AIDS is a tool developed specifically for African businesses, to aid them in developing and implementing a comprehensive work place program response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The Blueprint will be launched in Ethiopia through the partnership of EBCA with GBC and MSD, and will be launched subsequently through out Africa under the umbrella of local business coalitions, GBC and MSD. This is the first HIV/AIDS workplace guide of its kind, to include a free economic modeling software package as part of a comprehensive approach aimed at the fight against HIV/AIDS. The developers of the Blueprint drew on experience and best practices of various stakeholders such as the UNAIDS, the International Labor Organization, World Bank, NGOs and other Africa based companies that have successfully initiated HIV/AIDS workplace programs.
