Despite the magnitude and severe consequences of the pandemic the necessary data on the prevalence and situation of AIDS orphans is lacking. Considering, this, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in collaboration with UNICEF and the Italian Cooperation has taken the initiative to carry out this study.

The study set out to determine the prevalence of AIDS orphans and find out the socio-demographic, health, educational, status, etc., status of AIDS orphans. It also explored the availability and accessibility of services designed to alleviate the problems of AIDS orphans. A combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches were utilized in the attempt to attain the research objectives.
