-A growing number of AIDS orphans cannot afford the cost of attending school.
-Many drop out of school to resort to income-generating activities or begging.
-In households affected by HIV/AIDS, childrenespecially girlsoften stay home from school to care for ailing family members. The high cost of caring for the HIV-infected further reduces available funds for children to attend school.
·As an unschooled group of orphans matures into adulthood, a growing class of adults will lack the skills to be highly economically productive, burdening government and community support services, and consequently, hindering development.
The high death toll, and consequent financial demands for funeral and mourning rites, resulting from HIV/AIDS is leading community organizations like Edirs into bankruptcy.
