PEPFAR report on Food and Nutrition for People Living with HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS and malnutrition are both highly prevalent in many parts of the world, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. This report presents a U.S. Government (USG)-wide approach for addressing food and nutrition needs of PLWHA receiving treatment and care.

Wegen AIDS Talkline is expanding its service till midnight

Wegen AIDS Talkline is expanding its services from 8:00am to 12:00 midnight Monday - Saturday. The talkline has been operational since December 2004. It can be reached free of charge from any landline telephone throughout the country by dialing 952. Callers with mobile phones will be charged with the regular ETC rate.

Monthly HIV Care and ART Update (Miyazia 1998 E.C. or May 2006)

The MoH and HAPCO published the monthly update on ART in Ethiopia, "HIV Care and ART Update" (Megabit 1998 E.C. or April 2006). The update lists ART uptake by site and number of new enrolled patients in Ethiopia for the above mentioned period.

HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia: Where is the epidemic heading?

This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and incidence of HIV and behavioral data to investigate trends in HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. The research was conducted by reviewing reports, literature, surveillance data, estimates from antenatal clinics (ANCs) and data from voluntary counseling and testing centres.

Testimonies of PLWHA in Ethiopia

A new web site (http://www.etharc.org/plwha) with testimonies of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Ethiopia is launched. The web site contains useful resources on how to live positively, FAQs and links to useful resources for PLWHA. We would like to thank gratefully the members of Tilla Association of Women Living with HIV who have come forward and share their true life-story.

The UNAIDS/WHO Global HIV/AIDS Online Database collates the most recent country-specific data on the spread and impact of the virus, together with information on risk behaviours (e.g. casual sex and condom use). The Epidemiological Fact Sheets on HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections formed the base from which this site was developed.

World Health Organization - Sex Work Toolkit

The toolkit is intended as a resource to guide the development and implementation of effective HIV interventions in diverse sex work settings. It outlines key steps and issues and provides links to many documents, manuals, reports, and research studies containing more detailed and in-depth information. Each such resource or tool has been annotated to assist readers in deciding whether it is relevant to their particular situations.

HIV, Health and Your Community - A Guide for Action

Hesperian, the creators of "Where There Is No Doctor", released new HIV/AIDS manual designed for confronting HIV in places with few medical resources, this comprehensive manual is accessible to people without technical knowledge or prior training in HIV prevention or in the care of people with HIV/AIDS. Topics include: biology of HIV, prevention strategies, counseling and testing, low-cost care for people with HIV and their families, and guidelines for using ART and treating opportunistic infections.
