AIDS in Ethiopia 6th Report

The figures presented here are all derived from estimations and projections produced by the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia during the preparation of the AIDS in Ethiopia: 6th Report. The report made use of information obtained by anonymous and unlinked testing of the leftover blood collected for syphilis screening during antenatal care visits by pregnant women in selected sentinel sites. All Regional Health Bureaus participated in data collection, and the results were discussed during the consensus meeting of Regional Health Bureaus and national experts held in Addis Ababa. The technical and financial support was provided with President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC-Ethiopia), and WHO covered the operational costs of the surveillance round. This database system was designed and developed by the AIDS Resource Center of Ethiopia.

The information presented here refers to the following:
Region: Information is made available for each of the 11 regions of the country and the national.

Residence: The information for all regions and the national are classified into urban, rural, and urban+rural areas. Addis Ababa is assumed to be entirely urban, and the values for its urban areas are equal to those of its total, while all rural values for Addis Ababa are zero.

Age: Information related to the key HIV indicators (i.e. People Living with HIV, New HIV Infections, New AIDS Cases, Annual AIDS Deaths, and Number Needing ART), are classified into All Ages, Ages 0 - 14, Ages 15 - 49, and Ages 15 +.

Gender: Information related to key HIV indicators (i.e. People Living with HIV, New HIV Infections, New AIDS Cases, Annual AIDS Deaths, Number Needing ART) and prevalence and incidence are classified into male, female and total.

Year: All indicators are presented for the years 1985 - 2010, except for orphan numbers that refer to 1987 - 2010, and HIV Population by Age Group that refers to the year 2005 only.
