HIV This Week: what scientific journals said

This newly launched UNAIDS' blog offers up-to-date insight into scientific developments within the AIDS response. HIV This Week, published by UNAIDS, is a selective scan of new HIV-related information found in scientific journals. The Editors of HIV This Week interpret original abstracts and provide editorial comment, so that information may be easily understood by people responding to the HIV epidemic in many diverse settings.

This information page provides links to hundreds of other sites on HIV/AIDS, all organized by topic (these range from nutrition and opportunistic infections to AIDS activism). The site features FAQs, statistics (though these are predominantly US-focused), common myths about HIV, and a condom buying guide.

This information page of the Department of Health and Human Services consolidates all the US government-sponsored research, education, guidelines, and drug information about HIV/AIDS for PLWHA and the general public, health care workers, and researchers in one place. In addition to permitting access to the resources mentioned above, the site permits visitors to order publications, subscribe to listservs, and access an HIV glossary as well.

This site offers a broad range of AIDS-related news and resources, including basic information about HIV/AIDS, treatment, medication planners, global issues related to HIV, side effects of HIV and treatments, testing information, statistics, and upcoming therapies. Also features a very good listing of international organizations working in HIV/AIDS.

AVERT is a UK-based international HIV/AIDS charity involved in medical research, HIV/AIDS prevention education, and promoting care and support to those living with HIV and AIDS. This site is well-rounded and fact-driven, containing statistics, a wealth of information about HIV and AIDS, sex and sex education, news, youth, and history of the epidemic. The site also features printable booklets and books for adults and youth, as well as quizzes and posters.

This site contains a wide range of recommendations and guidelines, factsheets and general information about HIV/AIDS, FAQs, statistics and trends, and resources for CDC research partners. The site offers basic and specialized information for laymen as well as professionals. Downloadable epidemiological software and training tools are also available.

This comprehensive portal, part of OneWorld.net, offers users a variety of information on HIV/AIDS, including news, debates, and abundant resources, including a collection of the latest tools for HIV prevention from around the Internet. Its "Guide to AIDS" is a good place to visit for a global overview of the impact of HIV/AIDS and major political issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, though basics on HIV/AIDS are somewhat sparse. The site provides access to information by topic, country, or keyword.

This information portal offers basic information about HIV/AIDS, as well as a full range of information from the California AIDS Clearinghouse. The site also offers opportunities to access technical assistance programs (though these are entirely US-based).

HIV InSite - USA

This project of the University of California, San Francisco, provides cutting-edge information about HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and policy. The site includes a "knowledge base" - a full on-line textbook about HIV/AIDS - as well as medical information, prevention, regional reports, and policy analysis (though this last component remains fairly US-centered). Its news collection is excellent.
